IFC Films & Sundance Channel Join Forces To Bring Olivier’s Carlos The Jackal Biopic To You

With the Cannes Film Festival just kicking off this week, it looks like one of the first purchases also happens to be one of the most anticipated films of the festival.

According to IndieWire, IFC Films and the Sundance Channel will be teaming up for a multi-platform release of Olivier Assayas’s epic, Carlos. The film, running five-and-a-half-hours long, takes a look at the life of the famous terrorist, known as Carlos the Jackal.

The film will hit televisions on the Sundance Channel in October as a three part mini-series, and following that, it will hit theaters in both an extended version, as well as a theatrical version (similar to what Magnolia films did with John Woo’s Red Cliff), and will also release it on video-on-demand.

Carlos stars Edgar Ramirez in the titular role, and is helmed by Assayas, whose last film, Summer Hours, was not only critically acclaimed, but recently got released from The Criterion Collection. That leaves me to believe that, along with Criterion’s partnership with IFC, that this will one day be part of the collection. They love to feature a director, and love these sprawling epics even more. This would be a perfect fit for the collection, and after seeing Summer Hours, which is a bloody fantastic film, I really cannot wait to check this one out.
