Terry Gilliam To Helm Arcade Fire YouTube Concert, Man Who Killed Don Quixote Further Away Than Planned

Honestly, I would be more shocked by a story saying that this film would actually ever come out.

With both Ewan McGregor and Robert Duvall saying that Terry Gilliam’s (Brazil, Time Bandits, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas) long awaited film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, may be further off than we expected, it looks like the director himself is doubting the speediness with which this film will get made.

Speaking on the red carpet at a premiere in the U.K. of Toy Story 3, the director said that ‘it will be a bit longer before you see it than I had planned.’ Oh damn it.

This isn’t the most shocking news in the world, particularly knowing just how doubtful the film’s own stars were in relation to its ability to get made, but it’s no less depressing. This is a film that’s been in the works for what seems like decades, and now this new take on this true passion project for Gilliam, seems to be just as problematic as his first stab at it.

Overall, this is sad news, but there is no doubt that this film will inevitably get made, particularly with just how close this film is to Gilliam’s heart. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later, but at this point, your guess is as good as mine.

However, not all news for Gilliam fans is bad as of late.

According to reports, the filmmaker will helm a live stream of the August 5th performance at Madison Square Garden of the indie darlings, and to me the best band working today, Arcade Fire. This will be part of the same YouTube series, known as Unstaged, that recently saw a performance from The National directed by D.A. Pennebaker, so hopefully this one is as full of life and truly amazing as that stunning piece of concert film that that was. Sure, it’s not Don Quixote, but hey, it’s a new Gilliam project. That’s all that matters.
