Miramax And The Weinstein Company Teaming Up For Potential Sequels To Bad Santa, Rounders, And More

With Christmas just around the corner, Miramax and The Weinstein Company are apparently in a giving mood, as they’ve announced a cavalcade of brand new projects, all sequels to previous franchises.

Miramax has announced that the studios will be teaming up for sequels to Bad Santa, Rounders, and Shakespeare in Love, with other possible film/TV projects surrounding Bridget Jones’ Diary, Copland, From Dusk Till Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance and The Amityville Horror.

Now, while Bad Santa (Terry Zwigoff: Louie Bluie, Crumb) has always been a film that has seen its fans proclaim their want for a sequel, sequels to films like Rounders and Shakespeare in Love don’t quite feel like a necessity.   Particularly the latter, which is a story I always thought could do itself a favor by going to the small screen.   The latter set of names sound like all potential TV series, particularly names like Bridget Jones and Copland.

That all said, it really remains to be seen what exactly is in the cards for each of these projects.   Personally, I’d be shocked if we see most of these make their way to the big or small screen.   However, some of these do sound a bit compelling, particularly something like Bad Santa, a film that I personally believe is in dire need of a new entry.

What do you think?
