Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood Opens The Cannes Film Festival

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator-style epic, Robin Hood, will be the opening film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 12th.

Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett is Ridley Scott’s retelling of the classic story, how the legendary myth of Robin Hood originated. Also co-starring Max Von Sydow, William Hurt and Lea Seydoux. Written by Brian Helgeland, who also penned L.A. Confidential and Mystic River.

The opening of Robin Hood at Cannes will also coincide with the U.S. opening on May 14th. They hype generated in France will possibly result in a strong opening weekend box office.

Last year’s Cannes opener, Pixar’s Up, which in turn grossed, a mind blowing $68.1 million opening weekend.

The Cannes Film Festival will run from May 12th to the 23rd.
