First Announcement For SXSW 2013 Includes The Evil Dead

breakersframedkorine

That’s right, this year’s SXSW Film Festival is still roughly two months away, but it’s already got one hell of a lineup.

Leading the first wave of announcements, six films in total, is one of 2013’s most intriguing genre pictures. The big reveal here is that Austin will host the premiere of Fede Alvarez’s remake/re-imagining of the iconic horror picture, The Evil Dead.

Harmony Korine returns to Austin with Spring Breakers in his arms, and the opening night film, the spot held by films like Source Code and Cabin In The Woods recently, will be none other than the magician comedy, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Not sure if I’m too excited about that one, but the Korine picture is one of my most anticipated films of 2013, so that is definitely a welcome addition.

Joe Swanberg’s new film, Drinking Buddies is going to bow here, as is Everyone’s Going To Die, and it’s a documentary heavy announcement here, as films like Downloaded are set to head down south at the start of March.

Personally, I’m most excited for a film like The Evil Dead. I’ve always thought the film screamed for a SXSW premiere, so it’s exciting to see it actually come to fruition. Toss in Carruth’s film, and you have a lineup that makes this writer quite excited to be heading back to Austin this year.

Here is the full, first wave, announcement:

Everyone’s Going to Die (World Premiere) — Director/Screenwriter: Jones
