Andrei Tarkovsky Archives Going Up For Auction

Fan of films like Ivan’s Childhood and Solaris? Want a piece of cinematic history to call your own? Have thousands of dollars in disposable income? There may be an auction you want to get in on.

The archives of director Andrei Tarkovsky are set to go on the block at Sotheby’s in London on November 28, and are estimated to fetch around £100,000 (roughly $127,000). Including letters, book drafts, audio tapes and photos related to the filmmaker, the archive is easily the most extensive insight into the influential filmmaker’s life and career.

Tarkovsky is as important a filmmaker as any from his generation, and has recently see a revival of his works. Childhood is awaiting a Criterion Blu-ray release early next year, and with three of his films inside the top 30 of the BFI’s Greatest Films Of All-Time he is once again seen as the genius filmmaker that he truly was. This set; which includes shot-by-shot analysis of his works, scripts, tapes and even family photos, is something that any film nerd would be lucky enough to have. Hopefully we’ll be able to one day see what’s held within this collection.
