From the Criterion Closet to once again hosting one of the best film showcases on television, Bill Hader may be a funny man on the surface, but a cinephile at heart.
TCM has decided to bring him back to once again host TCM Essentials Jr., a showcase of 13 films that ‘are ideal for parents to introduce to kids.’ Starting on Sunday, June 3, the showcase will include films like 12 Angry Men (the opening film in the series), as well as other Criterion approved titles like The Bank Dick, The Thief Of Bagdad, and the pending Criterion release (one would imagine, anyways), Chaplin’s The Circus.
Airing each Sunday, the series is one of TCM’s best and most interesting collections of films that they offer. I think the idea of doing a series of classic films revolving around introducing these films to your children is not only great, but also massively important. Toss in a great lineup like this one, and you have something that the whole family truly can’t miss. Here’s the full lineup:
June 3 ‘“ 12 Angry Men (1957)
June 10 ‘“ The Wizard of Oz (1939)
June 17 ‘“ Rio Bravo (1959)
June 24 ‘“ The Circus (1928)
July 1 ‘“ Lassie Come Home (1943)
July 8 ‘“ The Bank Dick (1940)
July 15 ‘“ The Thief of Bagdad (1940)
July 22 ‘“ The Great Escape (1963)
July 29 ‘“ The Band Wagon (1953)
Aug. 5 ‘“ The Invisible Man (1933)
Aug. 12 ‘“ 42nd Street (1933)
