He may or may not be on the way to having a film, or two, of his enter the Criterion Collection, but what director Errol Morris is doing, is continuing to pump out films that are both insanely entertaining, and even more thought provoking.
The latest piece offered up by the iconic documentarian is a short, looking at an odd entity that has become fodder for conspiracy theorists around the world. Entitled ‘˜The Umbrella Man’, the film looks at the titular man who, as the film describes, is the only man in Dallas on the day of the JFK assassination to be using an ominous, open black umbrella.
Morris chats with writer Josiah ‘Tink’ Thompson about the man and what he has meant to the investigation and controversy surrounding the assassination, in what is one of the more beautiful and intriguing shorts you’ll see all year. Morris does have the hopes of extending this into a larger film looking at the assassination, which we can only hope fill join The Criterion Collection like some of the films rumored here.
