English Subtitled Trailer For The Grandmasters Hits

Hey, remember that amazingly beautiful and long awaited trailer for Wong Kar-Wai’s anxiously anticipated action film/Ip Man biopic The Grandmasters? Bummed that despite how pretty the footage was, you couldn’t understand the context with which the trailer is set? Well, thanks to Andrew Chan over at Film Comment, that’s changed.

With a nod to The Film Stage for digging this sucker up, the spot has been translated by Chan, and is still absolutely thrilling.

The film stars Tony Leug as Ip Man, the iconic martial artist and his rise to that very spot. With director Kar-Wai looking at the very tip top of his game, this is bound to be one of 2013(?)’s most intriguing pictures. No domestic release date has been set as of this moment, but with a date set for a debut in China (December 18), don’t expect Annapurna Pictures to keep quiet much longer. A distributor is being sought, but that hunt shouldn’t go on much longer.
