First Look At Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi

Of all the films that have been hanging around in the production purgatory, very few sound as intriguing as Ang Lee’s long talked about adaptation of Yann Martel’s beloved novel, ‘Life Of Pi.’

Starring Suraj Sharma, the film will follow the story of a young boy who is put in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan and a Bengal tiger following a shipwreck, which sends them on a journey within the Pacific Ocean.   And now, we finally have our first look at the film, and it’s quite bewildering.

With a supporting cast including Tobey Maguire and Gerard Depardieu, the film appears to have the makings of something rather special, but one can’t help but feel a tad odd after looking at this photo. I don’t have anything truly against the picture, but it just feels a bit too glossy, giving off a sense of realism that is almost nonexistent. Overall, the film is still far from being finished, so hope is still very much alive. Even though Lee’s last film, Taking Woodstock, shouldn’t leave us with any expectations, if we are being completely honest here.

What do you think?
