First Look At Arnaud Desplechin’s Jimmy Picard

It’s been a while, but director Arnaud Desplechin is back for the first time since his brilliant 2008 film, A Christmas Tale, and with quite a doozy.

Entitled Jimmy Picard, the film is based on a 1951 non-fiction piece penned by Georges Devereux entitled Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian, and stars the likes of Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric. Following the story of Picard, played by Del Toror, the film looks at the man who returns to from war only to be hindered by that past in various ways. Looking at Native American culture and its history, the film looks to be quite an interesting step forward for Desplechin, whose last film is one of the best films in quite some time.

Telerama has our first look at the film (via The Playlist), and it looks fantastic. I’m a huge fan of Desplechin’s last film, and if this is half as good as that masterpiece, we are in for something special. Oh, and the film apparently shot here in the Mighty Mitten known as Michigan, so there’s that to be excited about, I guess.
