For the past four years or so, I’ve sung the praises of Flicker Alley. I was first turned onto their releases when I discovered their Chaplin At Keystone DVD box set, and have found their subsequent releases to be absolutely stellar. They’re an independent home video distributor based out of Los Angeles, who release a wide array of classic films.
They’ve done an absolutely amazing job of releasing the various Cinerama films on Blu-ray, which is a tricky prospect, given the size and shape of the image. They’ve also recently released a new Blu-ray box set of the various Chaplin Mutual Comedies, and the essential Mack Sennett Blu-ray set, which will certainly end up on a lot of home video enthusiasts “best of” list for the year. I could go on and on about how special each of their releases are.
Next month, Flicker Alley is set to release two more Cinerama films: Search For Paradise, and Seven Wonders Of The World.
Flicker Alley has just launched an Indiegogo campaign, hoping to raise $5,000 in order to help with the start-up costs involved with launching a new MOD program for the various titles from the Blackhawk Films library that they have the rights to. The campaign ends on December 15th, so be sure to go donate before then.
Here is a list that they’ve provided, of titles that will be coming to their MOD program:
- AELITA, THE QUEEN OF MARS
- THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES
- BED AND SOFA/CHESS FEVER
- BERLIN, THE SYMPHONY OF A GREAT CITY
- THE BEST ARBUCKLE/KEATON ALBUM VOLUMES 1 & 2
- COBRA
- CYRANO DE BERGERAC (1925)
- D. W. GRIFFITH, YEARS OF DISCOVERY 1908-1914 VOLUMES 1 & 2
- FROM THE MANGER TO THE CROSS/LIFE AND PASSION OF JESUS
- JOAN THE WOMAN
- LISTEN TO BRITAIN AND OTHER FILMS BY HUMPHREY JENNINGS
- THE LOST WORLD
- MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA
- THE MARRIAGE CIRCLE
- REGENERATION/YOUNG ROMANCE
- THE SHEIK/THE SON OF THE SHEIK
- TOL’ABLE DAVID
- TRUE HEART SUSIE
- WORLD WAR I FILMS OF THE SILENT ERA
They have several levels at which you can donate. The one that caught my eye was the $100 level which gets you a copy of their 5-disc set: Douglas Fairbanks: A Modern Musketeer as well as your choice of one of the upcoming MOD titles (I’m leaning towards Aelita, but I might go with The Lost World).
While you’re over at Indiegogo, don’t forget to help support our friends at Arrow Video, who are coming to the United States next year, and are raising $100K to help fun future restorations for this new endeavor.
