Focus Features Eyeing Matthew McConaughey’s The Dallas Buyers Club

dallasbuyersclubframed

Over the last few years, actor Matthew McConaughey has become an actor as sought after as any around. With startlingly great performances in everything ranging from the comedy Bernie to the slice of Americana Mud, McConaughey is seeing as big a career revival as we’ve seen in quite some time. And now, he may see Oscar come his way, as his next picture has gotten one hell of distributor.

The LA Times is reporting that Focus Features has nabbed the rights to the actor’s new picture, The Dallas Buyers Club, from director Jean-Marc Vallee. The film follows a Texas man who starts dealing life-saving drugs after contracting HIV. Co-starring Jared Leto, Jennifer Garner and Steve Zahn, the film could be one of Focus Features’ big releases this year, with the company only currently behind Derek Cianfrance’s Place Beyond The Pines.

Personally, I love this news. Focus Features is one of the stronger distributors around, and they always throw their weight behind truly intriguing pictures. Vallee is one hell of a filmmaker, with his last film Café de Flore being an absolute gem that not enough people saw last year, so this is truly one of this year’s more intriguing dramas.
