Well, they are finally here, and with 2012 now officially in the books cinematically, we have the recipients of the 2013 Academy Awards, and it’s one hell of a list.
The night started off with a bang with Best Supporting Actor going to Christoph Waltz for Django Unchained, but after that, the show went pretty much according to plan. Searching For Sugar Man nabbed Best Documentary Feature, and the big winner here has to be Argo, capping off the night with a Best Picture win. Also? A big winner is The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences. They put on a really entertaining show that was both a kick to the groin of Hollywood as well as massaging its ego enough to make for a really fun and entertaining night. A handful of films garnered wins, led by the below the line masterpiece that is Life Of Pi and there was even a tie in the Best Sound Editing award, with one Oscar going to Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall. Bond was a big topic this evening, as Bond was honored with a killer segment as were the last decade’s major movie musicals, capped off with a great, if too short, performance from the cast of Les Miserables. Seriously, it was one of the best shows in a long time. At least as long as I can mentally remember. I’m still in shock. Here is the full list of winners:
