Iconic Producer Bert Schneider Dies At 78

The film world has lost a giant, as iconic film producer, and BBS leader Bert Schneider has died at the age of 78, from natural causes.

Behind such films as ‘˜Five Easy Pieces’, ‘˜Easy Rider’, ‘˜Days Of Heaven’, ‘˜The Last Picture Show’ and ‘˜Hearts And Minds’, Schneider had become one of the most influential producers not only of his generation, but throughout cinema’s history, not only garnering critical acclaim, but aiding in the giving of a cinematic voice to an entire generation with his work on the BBS films.

Schneider is a huge part of the Criterion Collection, particularly with the Collection’s beloved BBS box set, but no set could ever do this man or his impact justice.   He was juggernaut of a producer, giving the film world a cavalcade of classic films, all of which seem to only grow as time passes. His last credit was on Michie Gleason’s ‘˜Broken English.’

He is survived by two children, Audrey Simon and Jeffrey Schneider.   He will be sorely missed.
