IFC And Sundance Selects Nab Walter Salles’ On The Road

Let the mind go a racing.

With its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival pending, Walter Salles and his hugely anticipated return to the big screen, On The Road, has finally found a distributor.

IFC has nabbed the rights to the film, along with Sundance Selects, which stars Kristen Stewart, ¬†Garret Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortensen, among others. ¬† The film is based on the iconic Jack Kerouac novel, and finds Salles reteaming with his Motorcycle Diaries team of writer Jose Rivera and composer Gustavo Santaolalla.

As a massive fan of Salles and his work, this is great news. This is easily one of my most anticipated films of 2012, and with a release date looming for the fall, this should be one of this year’s biggest award contenders. However, could it be heading for a Criterion home video release? Salles is a director who has always fit the Collection perfectly, and IFC is obvious bunk buddies with Criterion, so hopefully this will lead to a deep home video release.
