Jude Law Leaves Jane Got A Gun In Wake Of Lynne Ramsay’s Exit; Gavin O’Connor Hired To Helm

ramsayframed

As mentioned when the story first broke, the news surrounding the upcoming film Jane Got A Gun isn’t going to be stopping anytime soon.

First up, Deadline is reporting that Jude Law is joining former director Lynne Ramsay in leaving the film, which was looking to turn around rather fast. So fast in fact, that a new director has already been found, in the form of Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor. Shooting was set to start on Thursday, but those plans appear to have been scrapped by this rather shocking turn of events.

The outlet reveals that Law left the film because he “signed on to work with” the Ratcatcher director, and given the fact that he was ostensibly the film’s main villain, he’ll be a tough role to re-cast in the short time they want to spend in this limbo. He had only joined the film a week or so ago, so this all is shaping up to be one of the more troubled productions in quite some time.

For the O’Connor hiring, I’m excited. I think he’s a solid filmmaker, and an interesting choice for a picture like this.  However, one can’t help but be worried by the cloud of negativity surrounding this film in the wake of Ramsay’s exit. Hopefully it doesn’t effect this project much more, because it doesn’t look very good going forward, and it’s only been a day since Ramsay left.
