Richard Linklater Shooting A Before Sunrise/Sunset Follow-Up In The Summer?

Sure, I may not have fallen madly in love with director Richard Linklater’s latest film, Bernie, when I saw the film back in March at SXSW, but when it comes to Linklater’s filmography, he doesn’t have a single entry more superb or more beautifully made than his pair of romantic dramas, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.

And now, we’re finally going to get the chance to return to that burgeoning franchise.

A while back, star Ethan Hawke revealed that he may or may not be working with co-star Julie Delpy and Linklater on a new film in the series, and now, thanks to Indiewire, we now know this to be true. Hawke spoke to the outlet recently, and revealed that the film will be getting underway this summer, saying that ‘I’ve gotten into trouble, so I’m sworn to secrecy. The biggest change between this one and the last one is the internet.’

Personally, while I’m beyond interested in seeing this team re-join for another Before film, I won’t be holding my breath. I absolutely adore these two films, as they seem to be Linklater at his absolute very best and most personal. I think that the world has changed so much since the last film was made, that this is the perfect time to make this type of film. Fingers are definitely crossed.
