Rooney Mara Joins Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Side Effects’

From indie unknown to the star of some of the biggest films around.   That has been the quickly changing career trajectory for current ‘it’ girl Rooney Mara.   And her career only keeps getting more and more interesting.

Deadline is reporting that Mara has replaced Blake Lively in director Stephen Soderbergh’s upcoming film, ‘˜Side Effects.’ Mara will star as a young woman who must deal with her husband’s impending release from prison.

She joins a killer cast, including Channing Tatum, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, making this yet another great collection of actors willing to drop everything and work with Soderbergh.   I don’t know how he does it, but I’m just glad that for the time being, he’ll be doing it.

Personally, I love this news.   Mara is a fantastic actress, and with Soderbergh at the tip top of his game following the brilliant ‘˜Haywire,’ this thing could be yet another great film in Soderbergh’s canon.   But then again, what else does Soderbergh really give us? The film shoots in April, so who the hell knows when we’ll get this film.
