Trailer Arrives For Brian DePalma’s Passion

In anticipation of its debut at the Venice and Toronto film festivals this year, a new trailer has hit for Brian DePalma’s upcoming film, Passion, and if this doesn’t look like a return to form for the helmer, I don’t know what does.

Starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace, the film follows two co-workers who ultimately fall for one another only to be locked in a power struggle, in what appears to be yet another erotic thriller from the king of that genre. It’s a remake of the Alain Corneau film, Love Crime (which itself is currently available to stream on Netflix), and looks to be one hell of a film.

Personally, DePalma has been a director who has largely faltered behind the camera, particularly with his most recent works, but this looks like something really quite superb. Sleezy and grimy as all hell, the film doesn’t seem to be striving to be much more than a midnight thriller, but frankly, that’s what DePalma is best at. It carries a great aesthetic, and both of the leads are fantastic thespians, so color this writer quite excited.
