While his latest film, the brilliant Kill List may have hit home video recently in a fine, but non-Criterion DVD and Blu-ray release (something that we here at CriterionCast were crossing our fingers would actually happen, given the director’s seemingly burgeoning relationship with Criterion partner IFC), it won’t be Ben Wheatley’s last chance.
A brand new trailer has arrived for his next picture, Sightseers, and with IFC back as a distributor, it appears as though Wheatley has once again confirmed that he’s one of the UK’s most intriguing filmmakers in quite some time.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIh-LlbtFks&version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0]The film follows a pair on holiday who appear to be quite the troublesome duo to those who come in contact with them, and with stars Alice Lowe and Steve Oram in top form, the film recently bowed at Cannes this past year, to rather rave reviews.
Again, the partnership between IFC and Criterion has slowly been expanding, with a new addition to the collection coming from the distributor seemingly every other month, so while it’s a year or so too early to talk about this film’s home video release, one can only hope. This trailer looks fantastic, and Wheatley’s track record is as impeccable as they come. Fingers are crossed. I myself will not rest until he’s in Criterion’s ranks.
