Trailer For Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmasters Arrives

Here’s to hoping this means that we’ll actually be seeing the full film relatively soon.

After much wait, a full length trailer for Wong Kar-Wai’s long anticipated martial arts epic, The Grandmasters  has arrived, and boy is it a thing of beauty.

Looking at the life of iconic martial arts legend Ip Man, Grandmasters has been a long time coming, with a debut rumored for the festival circuit the past couple of years. A debut in China is allegedly set for next month, so things appear to be moving forward, but it really can’t get here fast enough. The film looks absolutely fantastic, finding Kar-Wai at his most playful and most action-focused. The director is known for his lush visual landscapes, but this looks like something wholly different, something like a filmmaker finding a new collection of toys to toy with in his proverbial sandbox. Context for the film is hard to come by here as the trailer isn’t subtitled, but all I do know is that it looks like an absolute masterpiece. Hopefully it lives up to the hype and the potential.
