Trailer Hits For Brandon Cronenberg’s Cannes Darling Antiviral

Well, apparently in the Cronenberg house, the apple doesn’t fall all that far from the tree.

After making massive waves at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Brandon Cronenberg (son of iconic shock filmmaker David Cronenberg) will be seeing the debut of his first feature film, Antiviral via IFC Midnight later this year, and in anticipation of that release, a trailer has arrived for the massively hyped thriller. And boy, does it look like the youngster has made his poppa proud.

Starring Caleb Landry Jones, the film follows a worker at the Lucas Clinic, a place that helps the public get themselves infected with the diseases of their most beloved celebrities. All wrapped up in a body horror-like aesthetic, the film looks, feels, and based on the trailer, sounds like a piece heavily inspired by the patriarchal Cronenberg, and yet unlike anything he’s currently doing. One of the most interesting looking and sounding projects to come up in quite some time, the film will play TIFF later this year, and hopefully IFC won’t wait too long to get this into the hands of the public, as a Halloween release would do absolute gangbusters. Oh, and it’s an IFC release. So who knows about what may be in store comes its home video release’¦
