Trailers Debut For The Cannes Bound The Congress And As I Lay Dying

With Cannes now officially a handful of hours away, trailers are coming left and right for those pictures debuting on the Croisette this week, and some of them are absolutely fantastic.

First up is the brand new trailer for Ari Folman’s follow-up to his beloved Waltz With Bashir, entitled The Congress, and it looks fantastic. The film follows the story of Robin Wright who is assumingly playing herself, as she learns that they now have technology to map her, copy her, and throw her into a digital world as many times as needed. The idea of immortality is heavily weighed upon this trailer, and the mix of live action and animation is actually quite thrilling. Toss in a stunning visual style and intriguing premise, and this is one that is as interesting a picture as this festival’s lineup has to offer.

Finally, a trailer has been revealed for James Franco’s new directorial outing, the William Faulkner adaptation As I Lay Dying. The film is part of the festival’s Un Certain Regard lineup, and with a cast including Franco and Danny McBride, this trailer hints at a film that could prove to be a magnum opus for the multi-hyphenate Franco. He’s been a rather busy body this year and this looks like his strongest project yet. Knowing that the festival included the picture adds a lot of weight to this film, so hopefully it can live up to the hype.
