Warner Archive To Begin Offering Blu-rays

While  they have made a rather big name for themselves in the on-demand, MOD DVD world, WB and the Warner Archive are about to venture out into the world of HD home video releases.

WAC has announced that they will be releasing Blu-rays, starting with the 1982 thriller Deathtrap and the 1962 musical, Gypsy. Future releases? They also revealed that the Jeff Bridges starrer Fearless is on its way, as well as the gorgeous Coen Brothers film, The Hudsucker Proxy.

Clocking in at $21.99, the films will be replicated ‘in limited quantities,’ but will give the HD treatment to some of the more underrated members of the canon available to the WAC. Personally, while this isn’t shocking news (Blu-rays have always been requested by fans of the WAC, and it only seemed like a matter of time), the films listed here are really enticing. Proxy is a particularly interesting reveal, as it’s one of Joel and Ethan Coen’s most intriguing pictures. A gorgeous film, it’s one of their least talked about pictures, despite being one of their most entertaining. I can’t wait to see what we get out of this announcement.
