William Friedkin’s Sorcerer Getting A New Transfer, But Won’t Come Via Criterion

sorcerer

Despite our continued pleas and all of our fingers being crossed that the recent rumors of the film not only getting a transfer but possibly Criterion being the ones behind it, those rumors pertaining to William Friedkin’s Sorcerer are only half true.

Friedkin took to Twitter this week to reveal that yes, the much beloved cult classic is indeed getting a new digital transfer, but sadly, Criterion will not be the ones behind it. The director said that “the original negative is in good condition,” but that the new digital transfer being budgeted out right now will “not be released by Criterion.”

I myself have never seen the picture, but as mentioned above, our very own James McCormick is a huge fan of the Roy Scheider-starring film, and wrote up a fantastic For Criterion Consideration post about the film, so he’s a better source of respect for the film than yours truly. It is however one of this writer’s most sought after home releases, so hopefully whoever grabs it does it some justice.
