On the last episode of the CriterionCast, we announced that we’d be splitting up the various segments of the podcast, into their own shorter episodes. We’re also rebranding each segment, so they can exist apart from the CriterionCast, and live on our new, upcoming podcast network.
At this point, our plan is to release a weekly discussion of the new DVD and Blu-ray releases, as we’ve done in the past in our Disc 2’s. We’ll still record Disc 2 episodes, but they’ll be a little more rare, instead of having them be a weekly supplement to the main episodes. The CriterionCast will function as a podcast specifically designed to discuss a release, a theme, a filmmaker, or just an idea presented in the Criterion Collection. Our news discussions will live on as The Newsstand, and our discussions on what we’ve been watching will become On The Screen. For now, everything we record and produce will continue to be released in the same feed that we send to iTunes, but eventually there will be separate feeds for everything, in case you want to pick and choose your poisons.
I’m restarting the episode numbering, DC 52-style, just because I didn’t have a good plan as to how we could calculate the number of past new release discussions. Also, that would just be silly. This is technically a new endeavor, and so we’re starting off fresh. Hopefully we’ll figure out a new structure for these discussions, instead of just bouncing around the new release list, but for now, it’s a whole lot of fun to keep the physical media love going here on our site, as we’ve been doing it in the past.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on what we’re doing to the podcast, so feel free to leave some comments below, or shoot us an email with your feedback.
On this week’s episode of Off The Shelf, Ryan, James, and Travis are joined by Josh Hurtado from TwitchFilm.net to discuss the new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of March 6th, 2012.
