Spike Lee Is Heading To Haiti For Follow Up To New Orleans / Katrina Documentary

After his rather powerful HBO documentary based on Hurricane Katrina, called When The Levees Broke, Spike Lee has directed two films, Inside Man and Miracle At St. Anna. However, five year’s after that films release, and many natural disasters later, it looks like Lee has found inspiration in darkness for yet another documentary.

According to indieWIRE, the filmmaker is currently in Haiti shooting footage for his yet to be titled follow up to Levees, which will look at Katrina, five years after the fact.

For those who don’t know why Lee would choose Haiti of all places to shoot a follow up, producer Jon Kilik thinks that people will ‘get it when you see it.’ Personally, while Lee’s filmography is hit or miss with me (far more hit than miss mind you), I not only really though Levees was a great film, but it was also a rather powerful documentary, proving that Lee still has a lot left in the tank. Both New Orleans and Haiti have had trouble rebuilding, leaving many to not only think when the country will be rebuilt, but if it ever actually will. There are many parallels to that country and New Orleans, so it will be quite interesting to see what exactly Lee can do with this material.
