Shout! Factory Announces It’s Comic Con International 2010 Panel Line Up, Roger Corman To Attend

Next month, the geek world will converge on San Diego, California, it it’s yearly celebration of the popular arts, in the form of Comic Con International. This will be my 18th year attending the festival, although my first as a member of the “press.” I use that term lightly as I consider us here at the Criterion Cast, more like passionate amateurs (a term recently popularized by Michael Chabon), than actual film journalists. We certainly take everything we do here seriously, as evidenced by our commitment over the past year to producing multiple weekly podcasts, attending film screenings, and over the past six months, we’ve covered various film festivals (Sundance, SXSW, and Tribeca) to bring our unique cineaste perspectives towards the upcoming crop of films and filmmakers.

While the finalized, official Comic Con Panel Schedule has not been released at this point, Shout! Factory, one of our favorite DVD/Blu-ray distributors, has sent out a press release with some what they will be offering this year. 2010 has seen the release of several remastered Roger Corman films from Shout Factory, including Death Race 2000 (read Joshua’s review here), as well as some really exciting upcoming Sci-fi / Horror titles: Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World (reviews coming soon). Roger Corman is clearly one of the leaders in the genre film community, and will be featured in his own panel: Roger Corman: B-Movie King on Friday, July 23 at 5:30 PM (Room 25ABC). Schedule permitting, I will definitely try to cover this panel for the site.

Shout Factory has proven itself, week after week, whether it’s GI Joe, Transformers, Gamera (read James’ review of the recent DVD release) or Mystery Science Theater 3000, to be one of the geek-friendliest distributors around these days, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Will you be attending this year’s Comic Con? We will most likely be trying to organize a meet-up of sorts, possibly in conjunction with our other blogger / podcasting allies. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, to stay up to date as to where we’ll be, and when we’ll be celebrating with our readers and listeners.

If you won’t be able to attend, be sure to let us know what you’d like us to cover, as far as panels / events go.
