Study Shows Rise In Weekly Online Video Watching Habits, No One Is Surprised

In a world where movies are more likely to be watched online than in a theater, and the day’s big story features an embed code, this news should really come as no shock.

According to a survey done by Frank N. Magid Associates, half of all Internet users are viewing videos while on their daily Internet browse, which is up from the already shockingly high 43%. 85% of males within the ages of 18-24, and 66% of all aged 18-34 watch online videos weekly. The company also said that they expect numbers to rise up to 5% over the next year, if this trend continues.

Personally, the number seems too low. I don’t know a single person that doesn’t watch a video online at least once a week, particularly today when films are finding a massive audience online. With things like Hulu and Netflix, this number is only set to increase, with the trend only exponentially growing.

However, I still wonder if as the number of homes featuring Netflix, Hulu, or other video watching enabled set top boxes rise, if this number will decrease, or at least in its momentum. This is a really interesting time for video distribution, and I think it’s going to be that way for a very long time.
