Ingmar Bergman Exhibit To Premiere In LA, Hosted By The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences

With Criterion staple, and all around film legend (and my personal favorite filmmaker of all time) Jean Luc-Godard (Breathless, A Woman Is A Woman, Made In The U.S.A, just to name a few) set to receive an honorary Oscar from the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences, it looks like the Academy is set to honor yet another legend in the world of film.

According to the Criterion blog, the Academy is set to play host to the LA premiere of a new exhibition, entitled Ingmar Bergman: Truth And Lies, all organized by the Deutsche Kinemathek, along with the Bergman Foundation.

The show will feature movie clips along with a collection of rare pieces, such as original scripts, posters, photos, which will give viewers a deep look into the process behind one of the world’s most legendary filmmakers and making his work.

For those who may not live in LA, along with watching his films like The Virgin Spring, The Seventh Seal, and Wild Strawberries, also pick up the documentary Bergman Island, that covers a lot of this same material, as well as his time spent on Farro Island, the place he called home until his untimely death.   The documentary is also a special feature on the re-release of The Seventh Seal, as well as its own separate release, so if you are interested in the world of Ingmar Bergman, one of the greatest filmmakers to walk the earth, make this a must see.

This series examines the biographical and psychological underpinnings of Bergman’s work. The closing Saturday afternoon screening is the U.S. premiere of a new documentary on Bergman followed by a discussion with the director, Stig Björkman.
