BFI Bringing Early Kurosawa To DVD In The UK

While we here in the states have had the wonderful genius of The Criterion Collection give us most of the Akira Kurosawa film canon on DVD or Blu-ray, cinephiles in the UK have not had that opportunity.

Until now.

DVDOutsider is reporting that The BFI will be releasing a four-disc box set, entitled Early Kurosawa.   Featuring six films from the early portion of the icon’s career, the set includes Sanshuro Sugata, Sanshuro Sugata Part Two, The Most Beautiful, The Men Who Step On The Tiger’s Tail, No Regrets For Our Youth and One Wonderful Sunday. All of which have been released by Criterion in their Eclipse line.

The set will include a fully illustrated booklet with essays from Philip Kemp, and will hit shelves on March 28 in the UK (only on DVD), for £39.99.

No special features will be included, and is the BFI’s version of the Early Kurosawa Eclipse set, with the addition of No Regrets For Our Youth and Wonderful Sunday, which were in the Post-War Kurosawa Eclipse set.
