Berlinale Honoring Armin Mueller-Stahl With Honorary Golden Bear For Lifetime Achievement Award

Later this month, the Berlin Film Festival (the Berlinale) will be screening several incredible films that we’ve written about previously. From the new Wim Wenders 3D dance film, Pina, to Ralph Fiennes new adaptation of Coriolanus, the world will get their first chance to see some interesting pieces of filmmaking.

Earlier today the Berlinale announced that along with their epic Ingmar Bergman retrospective, they’d be honoring legendary actor Armin Mueller-Stahl (Lola, Veronika Voss, Night On Earth) with an “Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement”  and would also be screening several of his films (listed below).

Armin Mueller-Stahl may be most recently remembered as the Russian crime lord in David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises, as well as in The International and Angels And Demons. Along with Lola, Veronika Voss, and Night On Earth, we also have a Criterion connection in his appearnace in David Fincher’s The Game, which will hopefully see it’s release this year.

Over the next few weeks we’ll have our friend Iain Stasukevich (of the American Cinematographer podcast) recording some bonus episodes with us, as he will be in Berlin for a month for the festival. I cannot wait to hear about some of these films.

Here is the press release, from the Berlinale:

Honorary Golden Bear and Homage for Armin Mueller-Stahl

The Berlinale is honouring this versatile and talented German star of world renown, who is also an extraordinary writer, painter and musician, with an Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement and this year’s Homage film series (see press release from December 17, 2010). The award ceremony for his Honorary Golden Bear will be accompanied by a screening of Music Box in the Berlinale-Palast on February 18. At a public interview in the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Platz on February 17, 2011, Armin Mueller-Stahl will talk about his work and take a look back at his career.
