Oscilloscope Picks Up We Need To Talk About Kevin

Coming out of Cannes this year, one film stood above them all as both the festival’s most buzzed about film, as well as the film likeliest to hit the Criterion Collection coming out of this year’s slate.   That film happened to be Lynne Ramsay’s We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Ramsay, a director already in the collection with the brilliant film Ratcatcher, absolutely killed on the Croisette this year, garnering some of the hottest buzz coming out of Cannes, becoming the most sought after commodity yet to be purchased.   A perfect fit for someone like Criterion Collection partner IFC, Kevin has finally found a home, and it’s not the aforementioned distributor.

Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up the North American rights to the film, which is Ramsay’s third film, and follows the story of a mother who must deal with her son after he goes on a high school killing rampage.   The film stars Tilda Swinton.  Kevin was arguably the most talked about project during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and should be right at home over at Oscilloscope.   I’m definitely upset that the film won’t be hitting the Collection anytime soon, but that said, this is not only Oscilloscope’s biggest purchase to date, but it’s also one that they should do absolute wonders with.
