Lars von Trier Shooting Nymphomaniac In 2012

While many originally thought of Lars Von Trier mentioning that his next film would be entitled Nymphomaniac at Cannes as something of a joke, it appears as though he is far from kidding.

Screen Daily is reporting that, and confirming rumors that have been swirling for some time, von Trier will be shooting the film during the summer of 2012.   The film will be the director’s next, and will follow a woman during the first 50 years of her life, and the sexual experiences that she goes through. Sounds like another family comedy from the master of the genre.

All kidding aside, the film does sound immensely intriguing, and also quite off putting.   The idea of seeing a woman’s early years through the lens of eroticism is obviously and inherently uncomfortable, but if the film ends up being half as good as von Trier’s latest, Melancholia, then it may all be worth it.   Melancholia is easily the director’s most personal and inventive film, and yet another piece focusing on the female experience, something the director has done his entire career.   Expect a ton of controversy surrounding this sucker.
