Abbas Kiarostami Looking To Cast Aoi Miyazaki For Lead In Upcoming Film, The End

Coming off of his beloved 2010 festival hit, Certified Copy (which is set to hit theaters on March 11), director Abbas Kiarostami (Taste of Cherry, Close-Up) has found an actress for his next film, according to reports.

Nippon Cinema and Tokyograph are reporting (via Toronto J-Film Pow Wow), that Kiarostami is looking to cast actress Aoi Miyazaki (best known for films like Mt. Tsurugidake and Shonen Merickensack), for the lead role in the director’s next film, entitled The End.

The film starts shooting this spring in Japan, and has been described as a sort of sequel or continuation of Certified Copy, which will follow a relationship taking place in Japan.   That’s all the details we truly have at this point with regards to the film, but while I may not be the most knowledgeable in the canon of one Aoi Miyazaki, I have more than a bit of love for Kiarostami.   Whether it be something like Taste of Cherry or the aforementioned Close-Up, Kiarostami is one of the most interesting filmmakers working, and it will be quite compelling to see what he can do with his second time outside of his native Iran, following his Italian based Certified Copy.

What do you think?
