First Look At Fish Tank In The Criterion Collection [Rumor?]

This past February, Criterion sent out their monthly newsletter, talking about where they’ve been and where they’re going. This particular newsletter also mentioned Fish Tank director Andrea Arnold by name, indicating that we’d see something from her this year.

Well let’s look at what we know:

Well, that sounds like an open and shut case, right? Over the past few weeks we’ve seen Criterion tweet out images from The Thin Red Line and Antichrist, so it just makes sense that this image seals the deal.

Here is the synopsis of the film from IFC:

FISH TANK is the story of Mia (Katie Jarvis) a volatile 15-year-old who has become excluded from school and ostracized by her friends. One hot summer’s day her mother (Kiertson Wareing) brings home a mysterious stranger called Connor (Michael Fassbender) who promises to change everything and bring love into all their lives.

Below I’ve included the image that Criterion tweeted out, as well as a screen capture of the film, for comparison.

What do you think of Fish Tank as a possible Criterion release? Is there such a thing as too much Michael Fassbender?

"From today's screening:..."

  • absolutely stunning film. Andrea has picked the right combination of established stars and some raw essex talent in (loads of award winning trophies)Katie Jarvis, Rebbecca Griffiths and Charlotte Collins. It's just a shame that our Best british newcomer 2009, did not get the best british support, from some of the big wigs in this industry . Thank god Andrea Arnold has looked out for the girls. This film beat all the big films at cannes 2009 Inglorious Bastards,Precious, and an Education to name but a few, and charmingly Michael Fassbender does not dominate this film, but compliments the natural raw talent of thses Essex Girls, and Kirstern Wareing (Essex Girl) and a touch of Harry Treadaway too
